Saia Spotlight: Our People Make the Difference

The day before Thanksgiving is a tough day for any business. A large corporation like Starbucks is no different. The Starbucks distribution center in the Garland, TX area had an especially demanding shift for the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. The staff that night was scheduled to pick up product for more than 80 Starbucks stores who needed freight in position for the Friday after Thanksgiving. Saia had created special outbound schedules for the effort, and it would take a solid team on both ends to make it happen. Due to the holiday, Starbucks was unable to bring in additional people. But the freight still had to be moved for the post-holiday rush. It began to look unlikely that the shipments would go out on time.

Always ready to do whatever it takes, Saia employees David Lowery and Zach Allen were contacted about the situation. Even though it was a holiday, David and Zach immediately volunteered to go to the Starbucks Distribution Center and help. Over the next several hours, David and Zach helped to check, wrap and load the six remaining trailer loads of freight. With their help, Starbucks was able to finish pulling, checking and loading all the freight by 6:00am Thanksgiving morning, ensuring the shipments would go out on time.

Thanks to a true business partnership, exemplified by David and Zach, everyone who stepped into those Starbucks stores the day after Thanksgiving had something to be thankful for.
